Learn MorePlayBook Tech, Inc. was founded by Charlie Coiner, a former NFL and college football coach with more than 30 years of coaching experience. Throughout his career, Coiner coached for NFL organizations including the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, as well as prominent college football programs such as LSU, Tennessee, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Appalachian State, North Carolina, Texas Southern, and Austin Peay.
The idea for FirstDown PlayBook began with something Coiner observed during his NFL career: coaching staffs were using a small fraction of an engineering software to draw football plays. This made the task of drawing plays inefficient, time-consuming, and far from ideal. In 2011, he launched the previous mobile-only version of FirstDown PlayBook to give coaches at every level access to his years of coaching builders. In 2015, Coiner launched the web version of FirstDown PlayBook, which provides NFL-quality tools to all levels of football. The platform today provides over 35,000 editable plays across offense, defense, and special teams, with features such as an AI Play Finder, video pairing, scouting reports, practice schedules and wristband sheets. It now serves coaches in over 53 countries across the globe.
PlayBook Tech, Inc. launched FastBreak PlayBook in 2022, a digital coaching platform for basketball. With similar features, FastBreak PlayBook gives basketball coaches of all levels access to professional tools at an affordable price. The platform provides coaches with over 700 plays drawn by college coaches with video pairing, scouting reports, practice schedules and more.
Together, the two products reflect the company's core mission: give every coach, regardless of level, budget, or resources, access to tools that make them better at their craft. What started as one NFL coach's frustration has grown into tools trusted by football and basketball coaching communities around the world.
